News on the BLA convention Oct 2009 The 9TH B.L.A. convention, sponsored this year by JBL, is now behind us and what a great weekend it turned out to be.  The work started on Thursday morning with the staging for the guppy and wild livebearer show being set up.  A total of 192 pairs of guppies and 50 pairs of wild livebearers were exhibited over the weekend, unfortunately the amount of space limiting the numbers. Entries were received from a number of countries including U.K. Italy, Germany, Slovakia, U.S.A. Malaysia, France and Poland. The lectures on the Saturday were all well attended and well received.  Saturdays Gala dinner had over 50 people in attendance. Prizes from the shows were presented and the retiring Guppy section chairman Derek Jordan was thanked for all his efforts.

Sunday saw the auction of ALL of the fish, as due to a malfunction of the hotels internet server, the planned electronic guppy auction was cancelled and we had to revert back to a normal “by hand” auction.

There were some stunning fish and a number of new collections were offered for sale. The opportunity to purchase quality Guppies and wild livebearers was fantastic.

Many thanks goes out to everyone who participated in any way at the convention, from the sponsors, (JBL) the judges, lecturers, trade stands, overseas visitors,  those who supported the whole weekend and also to the people who have been working on arranging the whole event  over the last twelve months.
